I have an old alaskan basket that was probably purchesed in the 30's it is very vibrant colored and has leather straps and shells hanging on the bottom. Its height is about 16" and ab out 10" wide. does any one know the value or someone who might know?

We are 2 french young people and we'll go to Alaska from the 13th of July to the 10th of August.
We are looking for some housing at somebody's place. That would be the way, for us, to meet people from the country ; and also to leave a part of our stuff when we go for hiking for a few days.

I think Cooper Landing, on the Kenai Peninsula was our favorite spot in the state! I especially loved the Horseback riding at Northern Forage 907-595-1806 (Alex is the owner and a really great guy!),
fishing, hiking, rafting, camping! The nearby Princess Hotel even has luxury accomodations: hot tubs, saunas, etc.
Kenai Lake and canoeing, and surrounded by beautiful mountains. It is less than a two hour drive south of Anchorage towords Seward and Homer. Seward has the
waterlife tours and glaciers. Homer is an old hippie town so full of fun stuff!

Please help. We are planing a trip which gets us to Anchorage on Sunday night and a stayover for a little more than a week - departing the following Tuesday night. I'm trying to find some good placings in Alaska where I could backpack (and camp) in a vast wilderness area that is remote and unvisited the majority of the time. I plan to take about 20 other people with me and I want to make sure the travel plans, areas visited, campsites, etc can accommadate them. I would also like the places that I plan to visit rich in unspoled beauty and hopefully at leat a few of the places will have some excellent fishing spots. I need about 10 parks that would be good for this.

Dear Alaska Guide,

My girlfriend and I are planning a visit to Alaska August 29 through Sept. 7.

We plan on flying into Anchorage. We are not interested in trendy tourist
sites, but we would like to see the the glaciers and Mount McKinley.

1) We are looking for a wilderness experience in a remote area.
2) - What are the average temperatures?
- How may hours of daylight can we expect?
- When does the sun rise and set?
- What kind of clothing should we pack?
3) What is the mileage between Anchorage and Fairbanks?
4) We are interested in traveling Alaska by rail, foot, ship, etc., and would
like some specific suggestions on routes and sites.
5) We would like to take a one or (at most) two-day cruise of the glaciers.
We are looking for a smaller ship where we can actually learn something
about the culture and geography and wildlife of Alaska rather than sailing
on the "love boat."
6) How can we obtain a descriptive directory of all of the Bed & Breakfasts
in Alaska?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have an opportunity to travel for two months this summer. I am an avid backpacker, paddler, etc... I am interested in traveling in Alaska by rail / foot/ etc... and would like some specific suggestions on routes and sites. I am not interested in trendy tourist sites. I am looking for all of the information I can get on fishing on the north slope of alaska. I will be staying for three onths around the colville river delta roughly 2.5 miles form the arctic ocean. Any informaiton about fishing the norht slope would be appreciated. Thanks, Alaska rookie fisherman.
